Description
This piece fixes a young mohajaba girl riding a bike. The text within the piece is a quote taken from the film called “Wadjda“. The film is directed by Haifaa Al-Mansour. It is the first feature-length film made by a female Saudi director. Wadjda is a 10-year-old girl living in a suburb of Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. She dreams of a bike, she wants the bicycle desperately. But Wadjda’s mother won’t allow it, fearing repercussions from a society that sees bicycles as dangerous to a girl’s virtue. The quote is taken from scene 79 “Girls around here don’t ride bicycles, if you ride a bicycle you won’t get pregnant to get children”
إن هذا العمل يصور فتاة محجبة تركب دراجة هوائية. النص في هذه القطعة مأخوذ من فيلم يدعى “وجدة” من إخراج هيفاء المنصور. أول فيلم طويل من إخراج مخرجة سعودية. “وجدة” فتاة عمرها 10 سنوات و تعيش في ضواحي الرياض عاصمة السعودية. تحلم بدراجة هوائية وتريدها بشدة لكن أم وجدة لا تسمح لها بذلك خوفا من عواقب المجتمع الذي يرى الدراجة خطراً على نقاء الفتاة.
