Description

A flaming sword is illustrated using a quote attributed to Christ, selected from the first gospel of the New Testament; Matthew 10:3436. The whole quote is written from the bottom, rising in the flames. Each word follows a sequence of colors written in the jali diwani script Ottoman era Arabic calligraphy script. The full text is written again in black ink along the blade of the sword with verse 36 repeated a third time in the hilt of the sword.

“Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. For I have come to ‘set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.’
