Description
A quote from Imam Musa Sadr is written to form Zulfiqar, the twin pointed sword carried by Imam Ali. Musa Sadr was a beloved Shia cleric from South Lebanon. In 1978 while on a diplomatic mission to Libya, he and his two attendants were never seen again after an argument about Islam during a meeting with Muammar Gaddafi.
He who carries with him weapons and not his thoughts will eventually become a bandit.

After several drafts, the original of this piece was nearly finished sitting on the artist’s lightbox in Beirut on the evening of August 4th, 2020. The relatively unharmed work was the first thing the artist picked up from the floor after the blast tore through his studio destroying doors and shattering windows. After weeks of sweeping broken glass and repairing neighbors’ windows and doors, the remaining unfinished sections of the work were later completed at the end of 2020 in red ink when the artist finally returned to work.
